Saara’s Grandmother, Airi Aalto, and Grandfather, Eeli Aalto, became refugee war children in 1941.
Children were sent from Finland to Sweden for safety during WW2. Save The Children helped Airi cross the border and placed her with a Swedish family, whilst Eeli was escaping bombings in the eastern part of Finland having to leave his home for good.
At 12 years old, Saara Aalto composes and writes her first English language song, ‘This World’.
Saara is inspired to write the song after seeing so many children affected by war, injustice, and famine. She is also inspired by the stories passed down to her of her ancestors growing up as refugee children during war time.
The same year Saara wins a karaoke competition in Oulu, Finland, and the prize is a day in a recording studio to record her own song. She records her song, ‘This World’ (initially called ‘My World’).
With the Covid-19 pandemic shutting down the world, Saara, like many of us, finds herself with a lot of time on her hands.
She decides to go through old memory boxes she hasn’t looked in for many years and rediscovers the recording of ‘This World’. Much to her amazement, all the audio files are in perfect quality, and she knows she has to do something good with the song when the time is right.
With wars and conflict escalating all over the world, Saara feels ‘This World’ resonates today more than ever.
Saara contacts Save The Children with an idea to release ‘This World’ in conjunction with them and to donate all the proceeds to Save The Children to help children all over the world.
Saara’s vision for ‘This World’ is to record a duet with her 12-year-old self, and she contacts her long-time producer Arto Ruotsala to record her new vocals and bring the song up to date.
But because Saara feels that the song is all about looking at the world from a child’s point of view, she decides to invite 10 children to sing it with her. The No Fear Children are born, featuring children singing in their native languages of Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Swahili, Dutch, French, Tamil, Estonian, Finnish, Czech and Swedish.
At the music video shoot, it is incredible to witness cultures from around the world coming together to do good for children facing adversity.

Save the Children helps children to stay safe, healthy and learning, giving them a fair chance of the future they deserve. No matter where children are growing up, Save the Children finds ways to reach and support those who need them most.
